The Sika Experience

Due to a rather difficult political situation between China and Japan we will adapt the program of Sika Experience accordingly. As safety of our Sika Experience participants is paramount we have decided to change our plans and not carry out a combined Sika Experience with China and Japan. In November we will carry out a local Sika Experience in Japan during the originally planned time frame, enriched with some additional program highlights within Japan. The Chinese part will be postponed to the first quarter 2013 – more about this Sika Experience will be published here later.

With these measures we trust that we can grant safe Sika Experience trips for all participants and belive that we can focus on our activities together with the winning students. We look forward to both Sika Experiences – the first part with the Japanese winners will start soon: on November 7, 2012!

We are very proud to officially announce today the winners of the Sika Experience in China & Japan! Among many applications our interdisciplinary jury has carefully selected the following six students/young professionals:

Chihiro, Shuhei and Tomoyasu from Japan and Yuan, Yin and Niu from China! Congratulations to you, guys!

We are very happy to welcome you to an outstanding program allowing insights into Sika in both China and Japan. The program will start on November 7 in China and will end in Japan on November 15, 2012. We will take the lucky winners on an unforgetable trip into the Sika world and allow great insights into labs, works, job sites and show how we collaborate on an international level. Products for waterproofing, roofing, sealants and adhesives as well as concrete admixtures will be in the center of attention.

As the year is coming to an end I would like to thank you all for the efforts you made for and with Sika Experience.

It was a pleasure to read all these big and small stories which you wrote from so many places around the world. Whether you are in Chile, Zurich or Malaysia – it is great to participate a little bit in your lives via the blog and understand what moves you.

Keep up the great spirit in 2012 – there will be more goodies to come for students and young professionals e.g. a new Sika Concrete Experience (jippie!) - but I will not disclose more now. But before we plunge into 2012 enjoy some good days in the old year and see you soon! Stay tuned!

Christmas is just around the corner - also at Sika's Headquarters

Herewith we present to you the new platform of Sika Experience! After a successful 2010 we decided not only to go for a next series of Sika Experience offers but also to re-design our internet page. And today we proudly introduce Sika Experience’s new homebase to you.

The new Sika Experience

Not only the page is new but also the Sika Experiences we offer to students and young professionals are now enlarged by internships and other offers as suggested by our community. The first offers of the new Experience series go online today. Students and career starters can apply for the various internships and, if suitable, begin gaining project and work experience at Sika. In addition to increasing the offer of internships available to students, the Sika Experience platform will contain more and more reports on focal research and development programs at Sika as well as on sustainability initiatives. In collaboration with the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology) Zurich, a Master Award is to be given for the best work in polymer chemistry.

The new page

The new page focusses now more on the blogposts and puts the next Sika Experience projects and internships into the center of attention. The design is refreshed and the navigation has been simplified. We hope that you like our new page and its offers and welcome you to give us your comments about it – either right here or on our facebook-fanpage www.facebook.com/sika.experience. Global experience

Sika Experience was launched in 2010 – on the occasion of the Sika Group’s centenary. Some 1,500 young people applied to win a trip to six major projects. The 18 winners included people from China, Chile, India, Turkey, Ireland, USA, Thailand, Romania, Italy, South Africa, New Zealand and Switzerland. In around 300 blog entries the Experience students reported on what they learnt on their trips to construction sites and to Sika production and development facilities in Europe. Over 70,000 visitors followed the students’ reports. After the success of the first year, Sika Experience is to be expanded.

We are happy to enlarge Sika Experience by offering internships! You can not only find here internships to apply to but you can also follow our Sika Experience students and career starters by reading their blogs and of course replying to them!  Feel free to ask questions and comment on what they report. Check it out, the first Sika Experience is starting soon!

Thank you for giving us your valuable feedbacks and answers! We have received more than 300 replies which we do appreciate. These inputs are the backbone for our new series of Sika Experiences which we are currently working on. Based on your preferences we will now prepare adequate offers – we are quite enthusiastic about it and we are almost sure, you will be, too! Igor Pochorovski - Winner of the Sika Award 2010

On November 13, 2010 Dr. Urs Mäder congratulated Mr. Igor Pochorovski to the best master thesis in 2010. His thesis’ title was “Synthesis of BODIPY Dyelabeled Resorcinarene Cavitands for FRET Studies”. 25 year-old Igor Pochorovski has studied in Munich, Germany, Berkeley, USA and finalized his master thesis now at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.

The Sika Award goes to the student who wrote the best master thesis in Polymerchemistry and Organic Synthesis. The Sika Master Award is endowed with CHF 2’000 and is the highest endowed price for a master thesis in this department. Such prices are enormously important to young scientists as they support young people in their career start. Congratulations to Igor!
